OPERATION GRENZE MARIENBORN CATALOGUE, 2018
In Summer 2017 the Klasse für Installation und Raum by Joachim Blank from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig collaborated with the memorial site Marienborn on an intervention project. The students were invited to create installations on the grounds of the former checkpoint between DDR and BDR.
HOMI was commissioned to design the catalogue, which brought together the diverse projects and assembled them with an essay by Dieter Daniels and Sven Bergelt, as well as one form Fabian Bechtle, Joachim Blank and Susan Baumgartl. The photographs in the catalogue were taken by Bernadette Keating.
The design of the book transports the functional and chilling atmosphere one is surrounded by when visiting the memorial site.
The photographs were intentionally printed using a particularly rough printing grid, referring to the printing quality of books from that period of time, while the layout, typographic style and cover refer to a more contemporary aesthetic.
The yellow colored roof on the grounds of the former check-point inspired us to use a similar warm neon yellow on the cover combining it with strongly contrasting Pantone Cool Grey.
